HCS SB 470 -- LIENS ON REAL ESTATE

SPONSOR:  Bartle (Byrd)

COMMITTEE ACTION:  Voted "do pass by consent" by the Committee on
Judiciary by a vote of 18 to 0.

This substitute allows a judgment in associate circuit court to
be a lien on real estate if the judgment is final and not
appealed and increases the homestead exemption in bankruptcy from
$8,000 to $15,000.

FISCAL NOTE:  No impact on state funds.

PROPONENTS:  Supporters say that the bill eliminates an outdated
procedure in Missouri law and better protects Missouri debtors.

Testifying for the bill were Senator Bartle; and Missouri Land
Title Association.

OPPONENTS:  There was no opposition voiced to the committee.
